The brief for this Soho icon, owned by Sue Tahran, was to create something ultra durable on a limited budget. We designed everything from the globe signage to the shop fixtures and fittings and we paid special attention to the lighting, ensuring that it did not clutter the ceiling.

We also used a backlit Perspex and aluminium honeycomb wall panel for the front card wall and the fitting rooms.

The floor was another early example of using resin (before resin floors became mainstream) and we inserted a glass panel on the stair wall to aid vision into the basement that, at the time, was also retail space.

The other stair wall was in a bronze metallic paint with orange edges. Metalwork was electro-plated gold and silver, similar to that found in Japanese toys, and this was quite a job to do on such a scale.

We are pleased to see that this shop design has stood the test of time and although there have been some small changes, our overall design concept is still in place.
