Based in a Grade II listed building, dating from 1808, that also houses the Leeds Library (the UK’s oldest private library). The space had previously been a Disney store, which was fully fitted out wall-to-wall.
At the survey stage, there was very little of the structure to be seen but from research we believed that there had to be something far more interesting behind the scenes.
The strip-out revealed original detailing, which we incorporated into the redesign. Doing some further digging we discovered that the ground floor had always been used for retailing.

We carried out no repairs to the existing structure but left it as it was found, although we did dust it off a little.
We consulted the Library along the way and they seemed very pleased with the way the design was sympathetic to its original purpose.
This is one of Paperchase’s premium stores and the shop front and signage lets the building’s architecture take centre stage.
Opened just before Christmas 2010.
